Career Advice for Fresh Graduates Open to Entry-Level Opportunities by Noor Qureshi

Graduating is a significant milestone, and stepping into the job market can be challenging. These guidelines will make your journey smoother:

Build Your Skills Through Every Opportunity

·         If you have gained part-time or volunteer experience during your studies, you have already developed essential skills like teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. These "life skills" are often as important as technical knowledge.

Treat Job Searching as a Job

·         Searching for a job is an 8-hour-a-day commitment. Be your own manager by setting daily goals, tracking your progress, and reflecting on what you have learned. Use this period to develop skills, explore interests, and expand your knowledge.

Network Strategically

·         Stay in touch with mentors—both personal and professional—who can guide you through this phase. Connect with professionals on platforms like LinkedIn who share insights relevant to your field. Engage respectfully and ask meaningful questions. Not everyone will respond, but focus on those who add value. Share your learning journey online to showcase your skills and attract like-minded professionals.

Resilience in the Face of Rejection

·         Rejections are part of the process. They don't define your worth or potential. Some organizations prioritize references or internal candidates; this does not diminish your capabilities. Keep refining your approach and learning from feedback.

Invest in Lifelong Learning

·         Use this time to acquire new knowledge and skills, whether through online courses, events, or self-study. AI can be an excellent mentor

Balance Monetary Goals with Growth

·         Monetary benefits are important, but prioritize roles that offer learning, behaviour and skill development. Discuss salary expectations based on what you need for a normal life, but focus on the long-term value of the role.

Do not hesitate to take up unpaid, volunteer, or part-time roles. Even tasks unrelated to your field—like organizing events or assisting with office tasks—can teach you valuable lessons in discipline, time management, and adaptability. Stay positive and keep learning. If you need guidance or help refining your resume, feel free to reach out at noorqureshi1976@gmail.com. Good luck, and stay blessed!
